Choral Ensemble Grading:
Voice Lessons ~ weekly lessons are given to all students enrolled in choral music. 10 points are available for each voice lesson. Each lesson's grade is based on attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, and willingness to learn - the student will know the points earned at the end of the lesson. ( worth 15% of final grade )
Concert & Performance Grades ~ attendance and punctuality is required for all students enrolled in choral music at scheduled concerts and performances. 10 points are available for each concert and performance. Tardiness, leaving early, disruption to performance all result in lower points earned. ( worth 15% of final grade )
Concert & Performance Reflections ~ writing across the curriculum is a district wide effort in Atlantic. We will not only practice our writing skills with these assignments, it is an exercise, critical thinking, and self-reflection. After each performance, this will be filled out during class and evaluated & given feedback on. Each reflection is worth 10 points. (Worth 10% of final grade)
Daily Rehearsal Attendance ~ in a performance class, it is imperative to be in rehearsal to learn and experience the ensemble growth with each piece being worked. All unexcused absences result in a lowering of this grade - the student recieves one grace absence. ( 10 points available - worth 20% of final grade )
Daily Participation Points ~ by showing up ready to learn, students reieve these points. Taken away for tardiness, disruption during class. etc. ( 5 points per day - worth 20% of final grade )
Recorded Pitch-Accuracy Checks ~ recorded aural feedback of musician singing during ensemble rehearsal. Used to check students matching pitches, accuracy in rhythm, within music and ensemble around them. A pass or fail is given; student needs to pass prior to concert. ( 10 points. - 5% of final grade )
Written Exam ~ given at the end of the semester, testing information on posture & alignment for singing, keywords and concepts discussed within repertoire, repertoire recognition and history, proper breah management and singing technique, etc. (50 points - worth 10% of final grade )
Concert & Performance Appreciation ~ as performers, we should be appreciative of the creativity and quality performances of others in the field. This is why attending two performances as an audience member is required. This should in turn strengthen our own appreciation of the audience we have at our performances. A paragragh turned in describing throught on the performance along with ticket stub & program is required. (5 points each - worth 5% of final grade )
