Spanish 1
Prerequisite: Students who would like to enroll in the initial Spanish class must receive a C or higher in English 8, English R, or English H. If a student is taking Core English, they may enroll in Spanish 1 with written permission from the instructor.

The course consists of learning that lets students express themselves and understand others in Spanish from the first lesson. Dialogue readings and realia give students insight into Hispanic culture of yesterday and today. Students with good reading, writing and spelling skills should experience more success in this class.

Elective: 2 Credits

Spanish 2
Prerequisite: Students who would like to take a second-year Spanish must receive a C or higher in Spanish 1.
Spanish 2 focuses on improving proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as in listening and reading comprehension. Beginning with a review of Spanish 1 material, this course continues to build on that foundation with contextual vocabulary development, an expansion of verb tenses, and more grammatical structures. Cultural topics of the Hispanic world will also be incorporated.

Students need to be aware of the increased level of difficulty between the first two years and last two years of the Spanish language sequence.

Elective: 2 credits

Spanish 3
Prerequisite: Students aspiring to enroll in Spanish 3 must receive B- or higher in Spanish 2 and must score at least 80% on the placement exam administrated during the spring semester of the preceding school year.

In Spanish 3 students will use the language as much as possible in the class. The course will cover many complex verb forms and continue to broaden Spanish vocabulary.

Elective: 2 credits

 

Spanish 4
Prerequisite: Student who like to take the final Spanish class need to receive a B- or higher in Spanish 3.
The goal of Spanish 4 is to use the target language at all times during classroom instruction, whether it be a lecture or class discussion. Mastery of skills and concepts learned in the first three years of Spanish will be achieved, along with learning complex grammatical components and verb tenses.
