ICAM's - Multiple Assessments in Reading and Math

Iowa Collaborative Assessment Modules (ICAM) are sets of standards-referenced assessment modules in the areas of reading and math. These modules were developed by Iowa teachers after reviewing local district reading and mathematics content standards and benchmarks to determine which skill areas are valued by most local districts. The purpose of the ICAM is to provide information that can be used to evaluate the progress of groups of children - not to evaluate individual student progress. The Atlantic School District chose four modules to assess students. In the spring of 2003, eighth grade students completed Comprehending Functional Text (reading) and Problem-Solving Strategies & Processes (math) and eleventh grade students completed Geometry (math) and Comprehending Literature (reading). These assessments met the state requirements for use of “multiple measures” in the district’s standards-reference assessment system.
