Long Range and Annual Improvement Goals for 2003-2004

Long Range Goal in Reading

An increasing percentage of students in the district will demonstrate competence in reading, as evidenced by improving the district standardized test scores. (Linked to English/reading standard #2 Demonstrates competence in reading.  Revised and approved spring, 2003)

 

2003-2004 Annual Goals in Reading

Students in the Atlantic Community Schools will show improved reading comprehension

¥The percent of 4th and 8th grade students scoring above the 40th NPR on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in reading comprehension will increase in accordance with the Iowa Accountability established trajectories in reading.

This indicator was met.

In the fall of 2003, 72.2% of the 4th grade students were proficient in reading comprehension compared to the state target of 65%. There was a 1.2% increase in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

 

 In the fall of 2003, 75% of the 8th grade students were proficient in reading comprehension compared to the state target of 61%. There was a 6% increase in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

¥The percent of 11th grade students scoring above the 40th NPR on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development in reading will increase in accordance with the Iowa Accountability established trajectory in reading.

This indicator was met. 

In the fall of 2003, 77.2% of the 11th grade students were proficient in reading comprehension compared to the state target of 69%. There was a 4.8% decrease in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

Long Range Goal in Math

An increasing percentage of students in the district will demonstrate competence in understanding and use of arithmetic and number concepts, as evidenced by improving the district standardized test scores. (Linked to mathematics standard #1, Understand and use arithmetic and number concepts.)

 

2003-2004 Annual Goals in Math

       Students in the Atlantic Community Schools will show improved math

¥The percent of 4th and 8th grade students scoring above the 40th NPR on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in the math total will increase in accordance with the Iowa Accountability established trajectories in math.

This indicator was met. 

In the fall of 2003, 71.1% of the 4th grade students were proficient in math compared to the state target of 64%. There was a 1.9% decrease in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

 

In the fall of 2003, 75.8% of the 8th grade students were proficient in math compared to the state target of 63%. There was a 11.8% increase in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

¥The percent of 11th grade students scoring above the 40th NPR on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development in quantitative thinking will increase in accordance with the Iowa Accountability established trajectory in reading.

This indicator was met. 

 

In the fall of 2003, 79.9% of the 11th grade students were proficient in Quantitative Thinking compared to the state target of 69%. There was a 2.1% decrease in proficiency when comparing the fall 2002 and the fall 2003 proficiencies.

 

 

Long Range Goal in Science

An increasing percentage of students in the district will demonstrate competence in science, as evidenced by improving the district standardized test scores. (Linked to science standard #1 Understand the nature of scientific inquiry.)

 

2003-2004 Annual Goals in Science

Students in the Atlantic Community Schools will show improved science as evidenced by at least one of the following indicators:

 ¥There will be an increase in the percentage of students in grades 2-9, and 11 who score in the ÒproficientÓ science scores, as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

This indicator was met. 

 

In the fall of 2003, 73.08% of the students in grades 2-9, and 11 were proficient in science compared to 71.27% in the fall of 2002.  This was a 1.81% increase. 

¥There will be a net increase demonstrated on national standard scores for grades 2-9, and 11 in science scores as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

This indicator was not met

In the fall of 2003, the average science NSS in grades 2-9, 11 was -23.4 compared to 15.1 in the fall of 2002.
