Long Range Goal:  All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in science.
Annual goals 2005-2006
Students in the Atlantic Community Schools will show improvement in science as evidenced by at least one of the following indicators:   
1 There will be an increase in the percentage of students in grades 8 and 11 who score above the 40th NPR in science, as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.
  This indicator was not met in 8 th grade.
  In 2005-2006, the 8th graders were 69% proficient compared to 70% of the 8th graders in 2004-2005.  The 11th graders in 2005-2006 were 76.5% proficient compared to 73% of the 11th graders in 2004-  2005.           
2. There will be a net increase demonstrated on national standard scores for grades 2-9, and 11 in science scores as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.
  This indicator was met in 2, 3, 5, 6, and 11.
  The net increase on NSS for grades 2-9, and 11 in science was 12.1 for 2005-2006 compared to 11.3 the previous year.  Grades 2(+2.6), 3(+1.3), 5(+11.7), 6(+6.8), and 11(+4.8) had positive net increases in NSS while there was no net increase in grades 4(-6.9), 7(-4.3), 8(-0.8), and 9(-3.1).
3. 6 out of 7 classes (2-9) will make at least a year’s growth (1.0 NGE) on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in science from the fall 2004 to fall 2005.
  This indicator was met in grades 3-7, 9.
  6 out of the 7 (3rd through 9th) classes made at least one year’s growth (1.0 NGE) on the science subtest: 3rd graders, 1.3 year’s growth; 4th graders, 1.7 year’s growth; 5th graders, 1.7 year’s growth; 6th graders, 1.3 year’s growth, 7th graders, 1.4 year’s growth; 8th graders, 0.8 year’s growth; and 9th graders, 1.00 year’s growth.
4. More than 91% of 2005-2006 sophomores will score in the upper three quartiles nationally on the PLAN in science.
  This indicator was met in 10th grade.

5. The average NPR of students in grades 2-9, and 11 will increase from 62.1 NPR as evidenced by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development.
