2006-2007 Science Goals with Data for Indicators

 

Long Range Goal 1:  All K-12 students will achieve at high levels in science.

 

Students in the Atlantic Community Schools will show improved science comprehension as evidenced by at least one of the following indicators:

 

There will be an increase in the percentage of students in grades 8 and 11 who score above the 40th NPR in science, as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

 

This indicator was met in 8th and 11th grade.

 

In 2006-2007, the 8th graders were 83.6% proficient compared to 69% in 2005-2006 and 70% in 2004-2005.  The 11th graders in 2006-2007 were 80.7% proficient compared to 76.5% in 2005-2006 and 73% in 2004-2005.

 

There will be a net increase demonstrated on national standard scores for grades 2-9, and 11 in science scores as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills / Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

 

This indicator was met in grades 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11.

 

The net increase on NSS for grades 2-9, and 11 in science was 29.2 (06-07) compared to 12.1(05-06) and 11.3 (04-05).

3rd, 4th, 6th,7th, 8th, 9th, and 11th had positive net increases in NSS while there was no net increase in 2nd grade (-2.5) and 5th grade (-6.9).

 

6 out of 7 classes (3-9) will make at least a yearÕs growth (1.0 NGE) onthe Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in science from the fall 2005 to fall 2006.

 

This indicator was met in grades 3-6, 7-9.

 

6 out of the 7 (3rd through 9th) classes made at least one yearÕs growth (1.0 NGE) on the science subtest:

3rd graders, 1.1 yearÕs growth

4th graders, 2.0 yearÕs growth

5th graders, 1.6 yearÕs growth

6th graders, 0.7 yearÕs growth

7th graders, 1.3 yearÕs growth

8th graders, 2.4 yearÕs growth

9th graders, 2.0 yearÕs growth.

 

More than 93% of 2005-2006 sophomores will score in the upper three quartiles nationally on the PLAN in science.

 

This indicator was not met in 10th grade.

 

74% of the 10th graders scored in the upper three quartiles on the PLAN in science.

 

 

The average NPR of students in grades 2-9, and 11 will increase from 64.1 NPR as evidenced by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

 

This indicator was met by grades 2-9, 11.

 

The average NPR of students in grades 2-9, 11 was 66.7(2006-2007) which increased from 64.1(2005-2006) and 62.1(2004-2005).
