SPOTLIGHT on 4th GRADE
CURRICULUM

MATH
Our curriculum
includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole
numbers, data collection and interpretation, measurement and geometry,
and an introduction to the world of fractions.

READING
A
wide variety of materials are used in the eight reading classrooms. The
Houghton/Mifflin textbook titled IMAGINE and trade books are used
to teach reading skills and develop a life-long love of reading. Trade
books used include Stone Fox, Sarah Plain and Tall, and
The Last Safe House.

WRITING Schuler 4th graders will focus writing using Strategies for Writers, their new writing curriculum. Writing projects will include narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing.

SCIENCE
Science
is everywhere in our lives. Schuler 4th graders study animals and
plants, electricity, weather, and the human nervous system.

SOCIAL
STUDIES
The
year begins with map skills followed by study of U.S. regions. These
regions include New England, Mid-Atlantic, Upper South, Lower South,
Great Lakes, Plains, Southwest, Mountain West, and Pacific West.

TECHNOLOGY
All
Schuler 4th graders are introduced to keyboarding skills during a seven-week
mini-course. They also use the Schuler computer lab, equipped with 50
iMacs, to research topics on the Internet and reinforce math and reading
skills using various software.
