School-To-Work Meetings

The School-To-Work Committee meets at noon on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Following is a list of the locations for the 2008-2009 school year. The meetings last 1 hour and lunch is provided. Please RSVP to Andrea Wiederstein, School-To-Work Coordinator (awiederstein@atlantic.k12.ia.us) if you plan to attend.

The Atlantic School District needs your helping in supporting the School-To-Work (STW) program! Without the generousity of the community and the support of local businesses, the program cannot thrive. Any suggestions or offers on how businesses and the community can be involved with students in the classroom are greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact the District's School-To-Work Coordinator.

Why We Need

School-To-Work Programs

The transition from school to work in the United States is neither smooth nor efficient. Although most young Americans start working at paid jobs while they are in high school, these jobs are seldom connected to their studies or career aspirations.
Employment in professional and related occupations and in service occupations is expected to increase the fastest of all occupations and add the most jobs from 2004 to 2014; office and administrative support occupations are projected to grow about half as fast as all occupations, and production occupations should decline slightly.
Occupations with the largest job growth trended through 2014 require some degree of training / job preparation.
Constant training, re-training, job hopping, and even career hopping has become the norm.
